The Center for Intercontinental Media Assistance (CIMA), in the National Endowment for Democracy, works to excercise the support, raise the visibility, and increase the effectiveness of independent press development all over the world. The Center gives information, builds networks, performs research, and highlights the indispensable role independent press play in the creation and advancement sustainable democracies. An important element of CIMA's operate is to study ways to appeal to additional U. S. exclusive sector affinity for and support for worldwide media development. The Center was one of the of the main nongovernmental organizers of World Press Freedom Day 2011 in Washington, POWER. CIMA convenes working teams, discussions, and panels on a variety of issues in the field of media development and assistance. The middle also issues reports and recommendations based upon working group discussions and other investigations. These reports try to provide policymakers, as well as contributor and professionals, with ideas for bolstering the effectiveness of media assistance. Marguerite L. David E. Kaplan
David Elizabeth. Kaplan is definitely director of the Global Investigative Journalism Network, an association greater than 70 organizations in 35 countries dedicated to the expansion and support of researched reporting. For more than 30 years this individual has maintained investigative groups, nonprofit newsrooms, and cross-border projects. Through the 1980s and early вЂ90s, at the unique Center intended for Investigative Reporting in Bay area, Kaplan helped develop the model of a non-profit researched news corporation. In 3 years ago he became editorial director of the Washington, DC-based Middle for Public Integrity, in which he oversaw the award-winning Worldwide Consortium of Investigative Journalists, a credit reporting network with members in 50 countries. During this time he managed broadly acclaimed research into the tobacco, asbestos, sportfishing, and energy industries, dealing with the BBC and other leading media globally. Prior to that, Kaplan offered as main investigative reporter at U. S. News & Universe Report, then the 2 , 000, 000 circulation newsweekly. His stories there captivated international interest, including exposГ©s of racketeering by North Korean diplomats, Saudi funding of terrorist organizations, and the looting of Russia. Kaplan has reported from two dozen countries and his stories have received or distributed more than twenty awards. He can a four-time winner of the Investigative Reporters and Publishers Award, which include three medals, IRE's maximum honor. His work has also been honored four times by the Overseas Press Club. Kaplan's books incorporate YAKUZA, released in 12 languages and widely considered the standard reference on the Japanese mafia. As a consultant to CIMA, he served as editor and chief article writer of the 2008 and 2012 editions of Empowering Impartial Media.

The author worked in foreign media expansion for 25 years and \leads workshops and seminars for several of the groupings noted through this report, which includes Arab Reporters for Researched Journalism, the International Centre for Journalists, Investigative Reporters and Publishers, and IREX.
